Booking the Choir : Contact

For more information about the Choir and its activities or to enquire about engaging the choir for an event, concert or special occasion, please contact our Events Manager. A minimum of three months notice is required in order to book the choir for an event.

You can email at : bmvc.eventsmanager@gmail.com or complete the form at the bottom of the page.

Please try to give as much notice as possible as the diary can get quite full and we regretfully have to turn down applications owing to pressure on our time. As a rule, we try not to have more than two bookings per month.

Booking the Choir

We hope this page will provide helpful advice for those thinking of booking the choir for an event. In 50 some years we’ve done a few and the following suggestions come from that experience. Whilst all of the choir are amateurs and volunteers, we take a pride in making each concert, event or wedding just as good as it can be, so that both choir and audience have a great experience.

Concert organisers will be expected to take full responsibility for arranging venues, supporting artists, ticket sales etc.

Charges – we do ask for a fee, but as a charitable organisation ourselves we try to minimise the cost to those who are fund-raising for charity and fees usually reflect the expenses we are likely to accrue. This can be discussed with our secretary when you make an enquiry for a booking.

Venues – when choosing a venue the three main issues are space for the choir, space for the audience and good acoustics – not all halls or churches give a good sound on the day! The choir has its own portable staging. Changing rooms – and area for choir to sit/relax during soloist or others performing would be helpful. Where possible our Events Manager will try to make a site visit prior to performing to ensure that things go smoothly.

Piano – a good, well-tuned piano does help the Choir to produce a quality sound and would be our accompanist’s preference.  We have a portable keyboard which we can bring, but the best sound comes from a piano.

Repertoire – the choir has an extensive repertoire and adds to this each year. Usually our musical team selects the songs that we perform on any given occasion but the programme for your event may be able to include specific songs which you request.  Please bear in mind that it takes weeks – even months to learn the four part harmonies that male voice choirs specialise in and there are times when we have “learning overload” prior to a recording or a massed choir concert in such as the Albert Hall!

Selling your concert – to sing to a packed audience is our greatest pleasure so we hope that you can use posters, local media, websites, “fliers” for distribution to publicise your event. Ticket sales can be boosted by having them available in local shops, pubs etc., but if you have members or supporters willing to do the “hard sell” and offer tickets around to friends, family and neighbours that does help to fill up those empty seats!

We want you to have a memorable occasion so help us to prepare for it!

Weddings

After a wedding in 2013 a happy bride wrote the following : “To the wonderful Builth Male Voice Choir – We just want to thank you all so very much for helping to make our wedding day so special.  We had so many comments from all our guests about just how fantastic you all were and I cannot wait to receive our wedding video so I can hear you all again.”

We have sung at many weddings over the years and we take great pride in being part of that special day. Usually we sing for twenty minutes or so before the service, sometimes singing as the bride enters. We of course join in with the congregational hymns (copies of the order of service will be required for the choir) and then while the register is being signed, we sing one or two songs if required and occasionally a final song as the bride and groom exit the service.

When you have booked the choir you will then be contacted by our Musical Director to discuss your song requirements.  The Events Manager will also contact you to discuss practicalities and will make a site visit, or attend a rehearsal where possible. A deposit of £50 is required to confirm a booking with the balance due seven days before the event.
